Burien Designer selling cool, unique face masks to raise money for ‘Friends of the SHOWBOX’ - BTown Blog- 2/1/2021

Burien Designer selling cool, unique face masks to raise money for 'Friends of the SHOWBOX' 1Burien Designer Robin Dunkle is collaborating with The Showbox’s Shannon Welles to sell very cool, unique, custom-made Face Masks to help ‘Friends of the Showbox’ purchase food for its staff, which has been laid off since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The cloth masks are made of images of actual tickets used for shows at the Showbox, and are selling for $15.

Net proceeds from sales will go toward helping employees of the shuttered live music venue to purchase food.

Due to live event restrictions, Showbox staff have been out of work since March 11, 2020. As the pandemic rages on, economic and food insecurity are the greatest challenges facing unemployed staff.

Funds raised will further circulate through the local economy, as Showbox staff will use them to buy food from local PNW farmers and distributors.

“I met my husband Dusty at the Showbox Market 23 years ago,” Dunkle said. “The Showbox is not only the best music venue in Seattle but it is very near and dear to our hearts. Show your love for the Showbox staff by purchasing one of these special masks today!”

With funds donated by Howard and Marge Boutique in Burien, Friends of the Showbox will purchase food for Showbox staff from local distributors: Merlino Foods, a Seattle company started in 1900, and Charlie’s Produce, a Seattle company started in 1978. Charlie’s Produce carries a wide selection of fresh Washington-farmed food. The intent is to keep these funds circulating in our local economy by supporting local farmers and distributors.

The first round of food for Showbox staff will be given out on Feb. 13, 2021. This event will take place at the Showbox Sodo location. Organizers have raised over $4,000.00 so far for the project as they sold out in hours with the overwhelming love and support of our Northwest music lovers.

“We continue to sell these masks to raise money as we can. Further funds will be used for future food support for staff.”

Shannon Welles (Founder of Friends of the SHOWBOX and Assistant General Manager of the Showboxes) became interested in collaborating with Dunkle on this after seeing the Seattle Music Ticket Mask she did to raise money for Washington Nightlife Music Association. They set up a meeting, sorted through many Showbox ticket stubs and created this awesome mask together.

“We are very excited that this has been widely received and supported, as 100% of the proceeds go to Friends of the Showbox. We will continue to share the news and support this project,” Welles said.
